Fix The District WIMBLEDON

What happened

On Thursday 17 September 2026, around fifty passengers from up and down the Wimbledon branch stood on the pavement outside Wimbledon station from 4pm to 7pm, with placards, banners and a wall of quotes taken word for word from delay reports logged on this site. We handed out flyers, talked to commuters coming through the barriers, and took the group photograph at 6pm.

Nobody blocked anything. The station entrances and the step-free route stayed clear the whole time, and station staff and the British Transport Police knew we were coming.

Both BBC London and ITV News covered the demonstration — the first time the branch's signalling has been on the evening news. The ask has not changed: fund modern signalling for the Wimbledon branch.

About the campaign

Fix The District is a community campaign by District line passengers on the Wimbledon branch. Since February 2026 passengers have logged delays at fixthedistrict.org, and each report is recorded alongside TfL's live status at the time. The campaign uses that evidence, plus TfL and Network Rail Freedom of Information data, to ask Government to fund modern signalling on the branch, which was dropped from Four Lines Modernisation in 2020 with no funded replacement. A petition is open, addressed to TfL, the Mayor of London and the Secretary of State for Transport.
